Walk & Snap

Privacy Policy

Walk & Snap has no servers of its own. We collect no personal data, run no analytics, show no ads and do not track you.

What the app processes, and where it stays

  • Your walks — route, time, distance and steps, on Apple Watch also heart rate, plus the challenge, your notes and your streak. Stored on your device. If iCloud is enabled, walks sync through your own private iCloud database, so your iPhone and Apple Watch stay in step. We have no access to that data at any time.

  • Your photos — photos you take with the app's camera or add from your library are stored in the app and sync the same way as your walks. Like the Camera app, the app's camera writes the place where a photo was taken into the image, so it can appear as a pin on your map.

  • Your profile — an optional name and photo, shown only to you. They sync through your private iCloud database too.

  • Your settings — weekly goal, reminder time and other preferences. They stay on the device and are not synced.

Permissions

Each permission is optional. Without it, the app keeps working with less.

  • Location — to draw your route, also while the iPhone is in your pocket, to place photos on the map and to pick challenges that fit the weather. Without it, walks are recorded without a route.
  • Health — to save each walk as an outdoor walking workout with its route, to read heart rate and distance during a walk, and to offer walks you recorded with the Workout app. Health data is read and written on your devices only.
  • Camera — for the challenge photo.
  • Photo library — to suggest photos you took with the Camera app during a walk, to add photos from your library, and, only if you turn it on, to save your walk photos to the library.
  • Notifications — for the reminders you set yourself. They are scheduled on your device.

Apple services the app uses

  • iCloud (CloudKit) — syncs walks, photos and your profile in your private database. Apple's push service only tells the app that new data is waiting.
  • WeatherKit — to pick a challenge that fits the weather, the app sends your location to Apple's weather service and receives the current weather. Nothing is sent to us.
  • Apple Maps — shows your map and routes. Map tiles are loaded from Apple.

For these services, Apple's privacy policy applies: apple.com/legal/privacy.

Sharing, feedback and diagnostics

There is no public profile, no feed and no account. Your walks are visible to you alone.

Sharing — when you share a walk as a postcard or a story, the app creates an image and hands it to the iOS share sheet. Where it goes is your choice; nothing passes through us.

Feedback — “Send feedback” opens a draft in your own mail app. If you send it, we receive your message and your email address, and use them only to answer you.

Diagnostics — crash and hang reports from Apple's MetricKit are collected on your device (at most 20). They leave the device only if you share them yourself with Share diagnostics in the profile settings.

What we do not do

  • No account, no sign-up, no passwords
  • No advertising, no advertising identifiers, no cross-app or cross-site tracking
  • No analytics or crash-reporting SDKs — no third-party SDKs at all
  • No selling, renting or sharing of data with anyone

Your rights

Because we hold no personal data about you, there is normally nothing for us to disclose, correct or delete. If you emailed us, you can ask us to delete that email at any time using the address above; we will confirm in writing. Under the GDPR you have the rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, data portability and objection, and you may complain to a supervisory authority.

You control your own data directly: delete a walk and its photos in the app by pressing and holding it in the journal, remove the synced copy under iCloud in the iOS Settings, and manage the workouts in the Health app. Deleting the app removes the local copy.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version appears here with a new date. Material changes will also be mentioned in the app's release notes.
